This manual was developed by EngenderHealth and Promundo to support efforts for working with men and boys to reflect on and the role and impact of negative norms about masculinity, and transform those norms into more positive attitudes. It can be used to train facilitators who will implement workshop activities with groups of men. This manual is a compilation of the most frequently-used activities from two educational curricula—Promundo’s Program H Manual and EngenderHealth’s Men As Partners (MAP) Manual. It has been adapted for use with groups of men and with mixed groups in such diverse settings as schools, youth clubs, and community groups all over the world. The use of these educational activities with men has resulted in positive changes in knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors related to sexual and reproductive health, including HIV and violence prevention. This manual has various sections to help facilitators obtain the knowledge necessary to teach; curriculums and agendas; and workshop activities in a model in which participants question and analyze their own experiences to understand how gender can contribute to unequal power relationships and place men and women vulnerable to reproductive and sexual health issues, like HIV/AIDS.
